My Style

My Style

If I could describe my style in just a few words it natural, relaxed and real. That’s what it’s all about for me, above everything else. It’s about capturing the real moments, naturally and in the most relaxed way possible. If you know the shot is being taken, it’s not natural, so I’m a bit like a ninja on the day!

Documentary

I shoot the day in a completely documentary style. It’s all about telling your story. So as you may expect, that means that throughout the day, there is no posing. I capture your reactions, your feelings and the connections between people.

I don’t go into the day with a ‘game plan’ of photos to take, so to speak. I don’t want to take exactly the same photos at every wedding (that wouldn’t be unique and special at all!). So I’m really just looking throughout the day for the photos that will really tell the story about you and your guests. This way, the photos that you get are unique and bespoke to you, they are exactly what you want from the day.

Editing

Editing is part of my style. It’s not about changing what is happening in the photo in the editing process but more a case of enhancing and accentuating moments within the photos. I don’t do skin smoothing or excessive modifying of photos. Everyone is beautiful, you don’t need to be changing that. I don’t want to change your photos into something that they are not, these are a reminder of your day.

My editing style is bright, colourful and unique. I want to create timeless photos that you will look back on in years to come. I want each and every photo to bring you right back to the moment the photo was taken, to feel the love and the laughter right then.

Capturing the action

Action for me is one of the key moments to capture at every wedding. I am always on the lookout and anticipating what could happen next. The best photos are whats happening in the moment. For instance this shot below, I could see Matt was going to pick Carmen up mid-dance (not that she knew!). I could see him change his stance and I wanted to make sure I captured the spin perfectly! This was one of their favourite shots from their day.

How it works on the day

Photos start on the day when you want them to start. It’s your story I’m telling after all, so you choose the bits you want photographing. I generally like to start a few hours before the ceremony to get photos of all the action and excited anticipation and I always make sure I stay past the first dance and into the epic party and drunken dancing. These make some of the most amazing and hilarious shots!

During the day I like to be like a guest as much as possible. I try to blend in so that you won’t really know what photos are being taken and this, in turn, makes it much easier for you to relax on the day itself. There is no need for posing at all (apart from group shots, which I leave up to you to decide if you want them!) so it really just means that you need to concentrate on enjoying your day as much as possible.
